19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 various events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to create a final set.

He rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
