Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can expect discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
